Lighthouse Tai Chi® was set up by Helena Kean in 2010, as a project for local charity, with the aim of bringing the health, fitness and well-being benefits of tai chi to people of all ages across the North West
We teach a variety of tai chi styles and qigong, with a syllabus and lesson plans tailored to the needs of the particular group or client. At some sessions we also teach fan, sword and sabre to students who wish to progress and explore tai chi further. Workshops throughout the year also help students to extend their knowledge and deepen their understanding of the tai chi and qigong we teach in weekly sessions.
Short courses and workshops are also available for community groups, corporate clients and schools. Our talks, demonstrations and taster sessions can also be booked by organizations and groups, or for galas, community events and festivals.
People with back and joint pain, balance and co-ordination difficulties and those who enjoy the relaxation of aqua classes can also benefit from our unique and exclusive programme of Lighthouse Aqua Tai Chi® - real tai chi moves in shallow, warm water. This provides a safe, fun alternative for those who may struggle to stand for a tai chi class, and for whom seated classes are not effective. We have seen a significant reduction in pain medication and an increase in mobility and confidence for those who take part weekly.
Helena and David are both fully qualified and insured as tai chi instructors, martial arts and aqua instructors. They are both members of the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain and volunteers for East Lancs Health Champions Project. They have first aid qualifications and are enhanced DBS checked. Helena has 7307 Adult Education Certificate and David has BTEC National Coaching Certificate.
Beginners are always welcome. See our timetable for classes in Burnley, Pendle, Hyndburn, Rossendale & Ramsbottom. Please confirm times and prices with the venue before attending.
